MOSCOW, February 22. /TASS/. Buckingham Palace declined on Wednesday to comment on the possibility of a meeting between Queen Elizabeth II and the first woman in space, Russian cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova.
«Queen’s schedule will be confirmed in due course,» a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said.
Earlier in the day, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that Valentina Tereshkova, a Duma parliamentarian, may meet with Queen Elizabeth II in March.
He said the lower house had received «a request from the director of the Science Museum, London, Ian Blatchford, with an initiative to hold an exhibition on March 13-16 devoted to the first woman in space, Valentina Tereshkova». «He also working on the issue of a meeting of Valentina Vladimirovna (Tereshkova) with Queen Elizabeth II,» he said.
The year 2017 has been declared the UK-Russia Year of Science and Education.
