YEREVAN, April 23. /TASS/. Armenia’s newly elected Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan has tendered resignation after six days in office.

«I am addressing those who want my resignation. Nikol Pashinyan (MP and opposition leader) was right, I was wrong. There are several ways out but neither of them is good for me. I am stepping down as Armenian prime minister. I wish peace, harmony and tolerance for all of us,» Sargsyan said in a statement on Monday.

Mass rallies began in Yerevan and other cities of Armenia last Monday protesting against the nomination of former president Serzh Sargsyan’s candidacy for prime minister. On Tuesday, April 17, Sargsyan was elected prime minister. Sargsyan met with opposition leader MP Nikol Pashinyan at Yerevan’s Marriott hotel on Sunday morning. The opposition leader demanded Sargsyan step down while the latter said it was inadmissible to try to intimidate the legitimate authorities. The talks were interrupted after that. Also on Sunday, the Armenian prosecutor general’s office confirmed the arrest of opposition lawmakers Nikol Pashinyan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Sasun Mikaelian on charges of holding unauthorized rallies. All the three were released on Monday.
