MOSCOW, May 6. /TASS/. At least 17 people were killed and 33 more were wounded in a blast that rocked a mosque in the province of Khost in eastern Afghanistan, Tolo News reported on Sunday, citing local police.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani extended condolences over the incident, saying it was an attack on his country’s democratic values as the mosque was used as a voter registration center ahead of parliamentary and local polls scheduled for October 2018.
Earlier in the day, Reuters said that the explosive devices had more probably been activated remotely rather than by a suicide bomber. Neither of the country’s extremist groups has claimed responsibility for the blast as of yet.
