Father of Russian hockey: 100 years since the birth of Anatoly Tarasov 

MOSCOW, December 10. /TASS/. A monument dedicated to Anatoly Tarasov, a distinguished Soviet-era hockey coach, who would have turned 100 years old on Monday, has been unveiled in Moscow, a TASS correspondent reported from the scene.

The memorial was installed in front of the CSKA Ice Palace. Anatoly Tarasov’s daughter, prominent Russian figure skating coach Tatyana Tarasova, took part in the ceremony.

The CSKA Moscow team led by Tarasov became the Soviet Union’s champion 18 times (1948-1950, 1955, 1956, 1958-1960, 1963-1966, 1968, 1970-1973, 1975), while the country’s national squad won the world championships nine times in a row (1963-1971) and the Olympic Games three times (1964, 1968 and 1972). In 1974, the legendary coach was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. In 1997, he was among the first to be inducted into the Hall of Fame of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). Anatoly Tarasov passed away on June 23, 1995, at the age of 76.
